There are websites that the US consulates maintain listing the case numbers with their status. I am currently waiting for my H-1B visa petition decision in hyderabad. Below is the link the website maintained by the US consulate in hydererabad. There are similar websites for other US consulates in India

221g covers a broad sprectum of pending cases, be it name check or any other administrative processing. I personally was requested additional information that I have submitted about 5 weeks ago. This website is update twice weekly with each case status (pending, awaiting petitioners response, send passport).

Thank you so much for your response. Need a litle clarification on I-824. Can I file I-824 before my I-485 gets approved? If so, how can i request alternate chargeability to my spouse's country with out her I-485?
If not what is the best way to claim alterate chargeability to my Spouse country of birth. Gues I have to bring bring my family on H4 and submit I-485 in US or switch to consular processsing. Is there any other possible way other than these 2 procedures?

AR-11 has to be filed by all non-citizens, that translates to GC holders or permanent residents as well.
You dont have to provide COS for I-140 if all correspondence is going to your employer and you dont have any other pending application

I am kind of in the same situation...But, I don't know if the status means what it says.
But, I got the status change in Jul 2008 saying that
'the post office returned the notice we last sent you on this case I-485 application to register permanent residence or to adjust status as undeliverable. This may have serious effects on processing this case....'
The very next day I got this case status change saying that..
'We mailed document to the address we have on file, You should receive the new document within 30 days.....'
I took an InfoPass appointment and explained to them the case status emails. I also told them that I didn't get my biometrics notice. They asked me if priority date is current..I said NO and they verified too. So, they took the "document mailed" as the biometrics notice document and took my biometrics. I never bothered about that since then....
But, with new system change it shows as 'Document Processing & Oath ceremony'. So I am not sure what the original case status changes emails were about...and take the status 'Document processing and Oath ceremony' seriously.

You can stay in the US until the decision is made on your H1B application, and you can legally work (for the same employer) for up to 240 days from your application date if the case is in pending state.
Regarding DL renewal, it really depends on the DMV you go to and the knowledge of employees there, but some DMVs, especially in locations like NJ, are aware of this situation and extend the DL by 90 days based on your original I-129 receipt notice.
And in case if your h-1b application gets denied and you do not have EAD to fall back to, then you are supposed to apply for your legal status (H1 transfer (** not sure about this) or other visa categories) within 10 days of your denial notice or leave the country.
As long as you are legally here (all the time) and are working in your stated field, you shouldn't have any problem.

I filed for my EAD last year along with 485 and the lawyer sent the application to Nebraska Service Center, however, the receipt notice I received was from Texas Service Center.
Now, for Q11 - Have you ever applied for EAD from USCIS? Which USCIS office, which office should I mention? NSC or TSC?

Myself and my wife walked into the ASC today. The officer in the front mentioned "are you coming in early" we said yes and then he said u need to fill out the forms etc so we got it done today. I persume since the finger prints are scanned and notified to USCIS so I don't have to send to the service center
I am not sure whether a way to prepone it. You can try going for FP. They did not say anything about the future date.

In addition there are applications that are labelled 'EXPEDITES' on receipts. These are applications where the applicant or one of the dependents is between 20 and 21 years old.

Ah, the magical E-Verify solution. If we just required it for everything from getting a job to applying for any kind of government benefit and now qualifying for a mortgage, all would be right with America. In the mean time, innocent Americans are still getting caught in non-confirmation hell. I recently started work with a new employer using my EAD. I have a pending RFE on my 485 which I have to respond to in a couple of weeks. However, today I noticed that my 485 got a soft LUD of the day following the day I started with my new employer. My new employer uses eVerify but I didnt expect that it could be linked with a pending 485. Maybe I am wrong but I see no reason for the USCIS to touch my 485 until I have responded to the RFE.
Has anyone else noticed something similar when you started with a new employer using eVerify?

I am on F1 visa. I enrolled in one of the university. I don't attend university in person. I do attend classes online from another state. My question is that I am resident of which state ?? Will I be automatically resident of state where exactly my university is ? I know it is mandatory to attend classes in person on F1. Can you please advise ? How is residency considered ?

There is no AC21 for derivative applicants. She can join any employer at any time. AC21 comes into picture only for primary applicant. Derivatives get almost a virtual GC in terms of EAD.

I entered US in 2001 on H1B and have not left the country since then. Unfortunately within few months of coming to US, I had a fight with my wife and was charged of domestic violence. This charge was later reduced and I was convicted of a simple battery.
Now if I travel overseas and come back on AP (I intend to use my approved AP instead of going for H1B stamping), can I be denied entry to US at port of entry because of my criminal charge?
Anyone in the same situation or know someone in this situation? Was there any issue in there re entry into US?
