Potatoes, maybe.
But seriously growing your own vegetables is a fun activity. I have not done groceries in the last few months (exceptions being junk fast food, yoghurt etc). We grow vegetables all year round. In fact we have excess of most vegetables we grow. Try it, its a lot of fun!
And good luck to all EB2 and EB3 folks - we've seen good EB2 movement and we hope we'll see more movements in both EB2 and EB3 in the days to come. Till then, Happy gardening!!
Looks like this will soon become gardening forum...:)

Very well said. I have been on IV and actively participated in a lot of campaigns and events and interacted with a lot of people from different walks of life, different nationalities, different situations etc ... WHat I have noticed is, everyone has their own opinion and stay entitled to their opinion. Everyone wants to be judgemental through their opinion.
Now, lets all for a moment - step out of our "legal immigrant" shoes and step into the shoes of someone who has to decide what to do? As a decision maker, what will you do? Everyone has their own opinion to which they are entitled and thats whats happening.
Now, ocne again - step out of your legal immigrant shoes, and say, for some reason, you lost status and are deportable - what will be your opinion? Would you say "Shakle me and put me in detention center?"
If you are in poverty and and have no food for 2 days, you may go grab a bread from a store and run to a safe place and eat it - will you talk all these rules about shop lifting .....
If you catch a hungry child shoplifting to eat a bread will you PUNISH him? Ir will you try to do someting to make things better for him?
All you have to do is to come out of "the hate and hard" thinking and try to look at things in "rational and meaningful way"
Hate no one for what they are or how they are. Try to see if you can help. Just help.
I have been living in US for close to 10 years now and though I am proud of fellow Indian community and their achievements, I have also noticed how the community is divided and oponionated. Forming so many sub groups, promoting caste feelings, fighting each other, trying to piut down other fellow community members, lack of unity and what not ....
If everyone in this world want to be considerate and help - then there will certainly be a day when we can see a world without poverty, wars and all the issues we are having today.
1. " for some reason, you lost status and are deportable - what will be your opinion? Would you say "Shakle me and put me in detention center?"
What I and the majority of people in this forum do is their best to make sure they dont loose their status. If on the other hand it happens I would return to India and consider all options to reverse it. What I and majority of people here wouldnt do is stay here illegally. Loosing you status is not a crime for which you are shackled and put in a detention center. A repeated pattern of violating the law is.
2. "If you are in poverty and and have no food for 2 days, you may go grab a bread from a store and run to a safe place and eat it - will you talk all these rules about shop liftin".
This analogy does not apply to anyone on this forum as "Legal immigrants" plan for contingencies. Even if it happens I would ask for food as a favor from some one rather than break into their house and demand it as a right!
3."f you catch a hungry child shoplifting to eat a bread will you PUNISH him? Ir will you try to do someting to make things better for him?
We are talking about a 35 year old woman with a repeated pattern of ignoring the law, not about a hungry child. This is a completely false comparision.
4. "Hate no one for what they are or how they are. Try to see if you can help. Just help."
I dont hate them, i just think what they do is wrong and they shouldn't be rewarded for it. If an illegal comes asking for food, I am pretty sure every one will be happy to feed him. But if breaks into my house and starts raiding my refrigrator, he better watch out.
You are a senior member of IV and I know IV has concluded that any chance of meaningful immigration reform goes hand in hand with that of the illegals. I understand that, and have made contributions as and when i could to IV. But that still doesnt make illegal immigration "right".

1. Fire the nanny
2. Go to the cops ASAP with the camera. Dont let your greed for a GC stand in the way of doing whats right for your own child. Civil cases are separate from immigration and you should be fine.
If you dont report her, you will loose the respect of your wife (irrespective of what she says) and yourself.

Unfortunately the system does not work that way. Let me ask you this. If you believed in being result oriented and time bound and made an investment to file your green card, when do you think the investment will pay off? Some things money can't buy, it takes tonnes and tonnes of energy to make a change. Believe in this organization and invest your time in helping this organization.
Actively participate in all action items, mobilize your community, your state chapters. Spread awareness and build a sense of cohesiveness. Consider everyone here part of a family and remember everyone who works tirelessly work for all of us, not just them. Find out if there is anyway you can help, there are so many opportunities where IV needs all of us. Stand up, get up and move..
Yes, after all the hard work there are things that may not work, but if we don't try, the system will not fix itself.
I tried saying the same thing in all my posts. But people are just not willing to organize themselves to help themselves. Everyone wants the issue to be fixxed, but no one wants to come forward.
Everyone asks about IVs agenda. IVs agenda is clear - "IV has given you a platform, so help yourself". If people are willing to take up a cause - IV will support. But our people do not want it. People want to discuss, crib and cry and blame IV and fight.

Some of the members are so used to "short cuts" in their life. They hope they can get their GC tomorrow by pulling down another one in the queue. They are not willing to come in terms with the reality that retrogression is due to insufficient visa numbers and country cap.

Hello everybody,
I am a new member; just joined 59secs ago. I read some of the posts and know that there are some Singaporeans in this thread who have applied for the H1B1 visa under the US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement. Questions:
1. How long does the process of applying for the USSFTA H1-B1 take?
2. Where is the best place to apply for the USSFTA H1-B1 visa?
Please advise especially if you have already done it. I am about to start the process. Any advice is highly appreciated.
Cheers!!

Wanted to find out about the visa options for my wifeshe will be coming to the US on an H4 visacan a company hire her on an L1 or any other kind of visa or does she have to wait for an H1B until the next year quota opens upShe has an MBA Finance degree from Mumbai university & currently working with a multinational bank as a credit analystKindly Respond.
She can get on F1 visa (student) with a full scholarship (since she has an MBA it could be possible) or get an assistantship (that could pay around 2000$ a month depending on where you stay).

What exactly is meant by checking the receipt date online and it is 3 months after the date in the paper? All I see on my 485 is a statement that they have received my response to the RFE...I don't see any receipt date or notice dates on the case status online at USCIS.gov
Just wondering what you mean or am I missing something?

how does this information will make IV a great success?
Thanks for sharing the news buddy. You are a great immigrant.
Suggestion to all IV member: I hear Sean Hannity saying, "You are a great American" to the callers who shares his beliefs. I think we should start saying, "You are a great immigrant" to our fellow members who are sharing news or putting in extra efforts to make this organization and our cause a success.

BijalRs - Contributed $50 just now.
Com'on guys. I make less than $1000 per paycheck (< 30K per year) and yet I am willing to part with $50 to support IV. I am sure many of you make at least twice my salary.
Please contribute to IV and help yourselves in obtaining your GCs faster than the projected 10-12 year current wait time due to retrogression.

As many are aware, there was a huge rush to buy and sell pre-approved labors during July-August 2007, when all the priority dates were suddenly made current. Tens of thousands of labors were sold by fraudulent consulting companies to many questionable GC seekers, who hadnt even started the process till then.
It is those substituted labors which are clogging the pipelines now. Just think, last month EB3-I stood at November 2001. Now it is completely unavailable. It cant be possibly because so many pending labors with such old priority dates suddenly got cleared this month, and beneficiary of these labors filed 140+485 together. I seriously doubt that a candidate whose labor is pending since such a long time is even keeping that GC process alive. In all likelihood he/she must have moved on in life.
There is only one explanation. These labors were already pre-approved. It is the attached I-140 on these labors that are getting approved rapidly. And the subsequent I-485 petitions on these applications are depleting the visa numbers.
The reason of this post is not to start an argument about the ethics of labor substitution. It is just a FYI post to explain the seemingly inexplicable. The chickens are coming home to roost.
Yes true. A significant chunk of the old PDs now are cases of substituted labor.
Labor substitution was acting like a time machine to go back in time and apply for GC.
People paid as high as 10K to 12K for old labor.
