I have not been on top of this action item but this is what I posted at url - http://change.gov/page/s/immigration
Dear President-Elect and Respected members of the transition team,
Congratulations on the historic win and this election has triggered a ray of hope in me. I would be honored to contribute to the revival of America in any small way I can.
I am an engineer and working in Silicon Valley on a temporary visa from past seven years. The insecurity due to my temporary status has, to put it mildly, been a road block to any major progress in my life. I know you will be overwhelmed by information posted through this site, so let me keep this brief...
1. I am pursuing an MBA from Berkeley and aspire to start a technology based firm to create products that iron out inefficiencies in various processes. However lack of permanent residency is holding me back.
2. I have almost single handedly built a product that uses complicated mathematical models that saves US corporations millions of dollars in shipping costs. The directly competing product is built by a group of professors and PhDs. I want to use my current experience along with my managerial education to positively contribute to the society.
3. My wife and I plan on buying a house but again lack of permanent residency is holding us back.
In short, I would have contributed more to the society and have grown faster professionally if I had the security of a permanent residency.
Just because I happen to be from a country with a large population, I get hit by the green card quota and have to patiently wait for about 10 years when someone from a different country with similar qualifications gets the residency in about a year. Is this fair?

Let us all have a rally to move back to our countries on 4July2008 to symbolically show that we want our Freedom and Independence and never return back.
If all the articles about reverse brain drain we are reading about is true they would do something to solve this GC situation. Otherwise the anti-immigrants will come to see us off while we depart this country and never to return back as H1B's trying to get GC's and live here. This will go into history, 30yrs from now and our grandchildren will read about it. And may be we will get some special pension at our home countries for returning back and helping it to do better.
Please take the poll to indicate if you would participate in this QUIT AMERICA MOVEMENT FOR OUR FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE
I don't want to discourage you... but sorry i have to say this :D... I really hope you set an example by going back, but your blatantly obvious lack of intellectual acuity will not result in any brain drain... so the net result of you going back would be a simple one i.e one less in the line for GC ;) (not sure if you have dependents - actually not sure if you are waiting for GC)
Good luck with your (perhaps short sited) future endeavors, do keep a log of your journey I will definitely read it :) start a blog... ;)

I have sent money using icicibank's M2I service . Usually they take 5 working days to remit the money(atleast 8 days to transfer). I made four transactions last week(mon, tue, wed, thu) and they already remitted the money using low conversion rate.
It just took less than three days to remit the money this time. Bank deliberately did this just to steal money from me. I have lost more than 35 paise per dollar and it comes close to Rs 10,000. This is ridiculous and its a big robbery.
How do i get my money back? How do i make a compliant about this bank? They have no one to assist me over the phone.
What to do now?. Rs 10,000 may look too small for us. But how can we let banks to act like a criminals.
Any help/suggestion/comment?
It happened with me too. I ended up closing the account for which i had to pay additional Rs.1800 for the reason that i did not maintain a minimum of Rs 10k in the account in India. What a rip off !

Here's an anecdote -
This was back in the late 80s, when I was growing up - in Bangalore.
India had just lost the Finals of a well fought [field] hockey match to Pakistan. We were all very disappointed by the loss, but it saddened me further to see a victory procession with waving Pakistani flags in the Muslim parts of the City.
Ofcourse, India is a secular country and more so the United States.. and you can cheer whoever you please..
But, If you chose to become a US Citizen, and US were in a battle with your country of Origin (let's narrow it down to Sports, to keep it less complicated), which country would you side? If I chose to side with my country of origin, it would make me a hypocrite, wouldn't it ?

I know, there might not be sufficient time to get this bill passed in remaining days. But we should try , there is a slight chance, it may pass. Let us Hope for that.
Chances of this bill passing through all the steps are very slim in this year.

NKR - Sorry, I wasn't very clear and it got misunderstood.
What I am trying to say is that whether GC takes 1 years or 5years, it is worth the wait IMHO. If I have to do all over again knowing it could take 5-6 years, I will do it. But that's just my personal opinion.
How are things going on your side, NKR? Good Luck.
I am an early 2004 EB2 filer. I am hoping that mine would get approved at least before Oct. My EAD, AP, H1 and DL is getting expired in Oct. Glad to know that citizenship is making a difference in your life. I am happy for you. Good Luck

They keep repeating discredited theories and lies ad-nauseum until the opposition tires out and gives in
Border security is a good example of this!
Based on articles in News Article Thread, border security will not be effective. Some quotes from Don't fence them in (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=187144&postcount=1324) By Rubn Martnez | LA Times, October 17, 2007
The Great Wall of America underscores a delusional faith in technology as the only solution to a problem that has nothing to do with technology. Ultimately, such Ozymandian monuments say more about the minds that conceived them than any "enemies" they actually contain. Think of the grandiose barriers of history -- the walls of Troy and China and Berlin; the wall that kept the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto. Think of their fate, their ultimate symbolism. Each began with the idea that people -- and their ideas -- could be restrained by barriers, just like rivers can be dammed. A simple feat of engineering.
And yet we believe that our wall will be the exception.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has done his best to dress up the beast.
It will not work, because not even the greatest engineers can make a mad idea sane.
The following (from The Border Boondoggle (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=158814&postcount=1026) By Andrew Cockburn | Washington Post, September 2, 2007) is about cost effectiveness of border security.
These are that system's immutable laws:
The "threat," as portrayed to the public, always increases in direct proportion to the amount of money lavished on confronting it, and
every extra dollar appropriated for this purpose brings a progressively less effective counter to the threat, thus requiring that even more money be spent. Meanwhile, reality -- the scope and shape of whatever threat is being pressed into service -- is usually at sharp variance with the official picture, which leads to:
The "other side" can usually be maneuvered to react in a way that justifies further efforts on our part.
Given such deficiencies, it seems safe to assume that, $30 billion and more from now, migrants will still be sneaking in to mow our lawns and clean our discount stores, and that this ongoing threat will ensure ever-expanding rounds of spending. That's what "militarization of the border" is all about.
Lou DoGGs has been ranting on Border Security for 1+ year. He has convinced people; I also believed him before reading these articles. These people are forcing lawmakers (who know very well that Border Securty will not work). That is why Kennedy had a large unskilled worker visa quota: less motivation for coming in illegally.
In CIR, border security and amnesty were together. Now border security is before amnesty with the hope that there will be NO amnsety.
This is the influence of Lou DoGGs!

My PD is Nov 2004 (EB3 India). My 140 has not been approved yet. Also, I do not plan to use EAD so issues thereby are out of question. My only worry is can I keep renewing H1B while my 485 has not been approved. My attorney says NO. He says that you can apply for H1B extensions after 6 years only if you have not been able to apply for 485.
However based on your responses, it looks like I will have to validate this with some other lawyer to make sure if I can keep extending my H1B so I can maintain my wife's H4 status.
From what I know your lawyer is wrong, you will get one year H1 extensions in your case.
ask another lawyer or go over older Murthy chatlogs/faqs.

Here is what I have understood from my lawyers -
DOL decree, if adopted, will prevent any further labor substitution.
Any labor approved after the decree is adopted cannot be used for substitution.
Any 140 application based on labor sub will not be denied until USCIS adopts a similar resolution - it is unlikely that USCIS will do such a thing as it will lead to lawsuits from lawyers and folks already in the queue
People with already approved 140 do not need to worry at all.
I am laying down the facts here such that people can make educated decisions on what they want to do.

I am an IV old timer and I was wondering where the IV old timers were?
black_logs, ragz4u. logiclife, waldenpond, berkleybee, shilpa?
How many core IV members have already received their GCs besides Aman, just curious?
Of late is there anything of note even happening on the lobbying front? IV seems to have become another Immigration Portal kinda website where people are now posting all sorts of info, some of it not even immigration related.
It would be nice if someone in the core team updated the rest of us, who cannot join the state chapters due to personal reasons on the website.
I did not read your entire message earlier. You have cited personal reasons for not joining a State chapter and I totally respect your space.
Just to let you know - State Chapters are no extra burden or whatsoever. State chapter is just a verified list of dedicated IV members just like you who wholeheartedly support IV.
State chapters go a long way into building IV as a strong and credible organization.
Through State chapters we are able to identify new leaders, new ideas and better support through mutual trust.
If I were you, I would not be too worried about some earlier leaders who are not active. IV is a volunteer organization and every member brings in some value to the organization in his/her own way.
Old leaders pave way to new leaders and organizations grows and stay strong. IV is full of volunteers and anyone can volunteer to help in the community effort, so if you are interested, contact your state chapter and get going.
