The point behind the lawsuit example was that just talking frivolously about lawsuits without understanding background and facts - is completely meaningless. This has been proven in the past.
It was about why more visas were given to EB-I and less to EB-C. Nothing to do with present debate

My mistake.. I was under the impression that my contact info is visible. I have already met with my local congressman and submitted a memo. I have got a reply saying they would address this issue as part of impending CIR bill. I was not sure what to make of it, whether he is pro and anti retrogression..

I have talked to IMG sales rep, he said they won't cover for pre existing conditions. He also said that as far as his knowledge is concerned there is no company out there that covers pre existing conditions when I asked him about it.
My final assumption is that any insurance we buy anywhere, just covers illnesses that are developed after the coverage starts.
Any corrections??
India health network policy underwritten by AIG covers preexisting conditions for $20K for extra premium. It covers only acute exacerbations of preexisting conditions.

Do you know the history of NPR? Do you know how it is funded or how it operates?
Here's some information:
NPR supports its operations through a combination of membership dues and programming fees from over 860 independent radio stations (http://www.npr.org/stations/), sponsorship (http://www.npr.org/about/place/corpsupport/) from private foundations and corporations, and revenue from the sales (http://www.npr.org/transcripts/) of transcripts, books, CDs, and merchandise. A very small percentage -- between one percent to two percent of NPR's annual budget -- comes from competitive grants sought by NPR from federally funded organizations, such as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (http://www.cpb.org/), National Science Foundation (http://www.nsf.gov/) and the National Endowment for the Arts (http://www.nea.gov/).
http://www.npr.org/about/privatesupport.html
On average, public radio stations (including NPR Member stations) receive the largest percentage of their revenue (34%) from listener support, 24% from corporate underwriting and foundations, and 13% from CPB allocations.*
Also note:
NPR sponsors receive on-air acknowledgement for their financial support via ten second announcements that are broadcast during NPR programs. Online sponsorship is also available.
http://www.npr.org/about/place/corpsupport/
(In other words, the on-air acknowledgements boil down to advertising.. ).
Now let's take a step back and determine how most "professional organizations" like IEEE, AILA, and myriad other "associations" function...
Does it make more sense now?
Physicians have physicians' associations/bodies/organizations.
Engineers have their own. So do pilots, nurses, actors, screen writers, photographers, sales professionals, etc.
If we pride ourselves as an organization of high-skilled professionals, why not look at it as such and operate as such??? (Those who do not currently contribute may also be motivated to participate, even if just for the tangible benefits... )
jazz
Paid membership will not benefit the cause of IV at all. IV is a volunteer organization and paid membership will not do any good. Better approach is to raise awareness and tread a fine balance in asking for contributions.
Look at NPR. (National Public Radio) It is a public radio service and it's expenses are mostly footed by volunteer members like those who contribute for IV today. I think the key is raising the awareness and realizing that results take time.

Agreed getting a GC is a painful process not to mention the bureaucracies that go with it.Agreed serious lobbying is necessary to bring about a change in the legislative system coz waiting for years to get ones GC is plain ridiculous. But the idea of REVERSE BRAIN DRAIN is just a myth.I am pretty sure that atleast 80% of the people are just average Joes whose intellect is just better than those blonde babes of the "Girl next door" reality series. We should be glad that we were raised in a foreign country lest would have replaced those poor old folks saying "welcome to wal-mart".So lets stop talking about reverse brain drain and atleast not try to replace those intelligent ones back home. We being here is best for our country and our economy.

Good job in starting this thread. I got frustrated like this a few months ago for the same reasons that you & the other members have mentioned here; it definitely resonates with mine. So, recently I have decided to move to Australia by applying for a PR and plan to be there for a few years before eventually moving back home.
This is what I'm doing right now:
[1] Working on my PMP cert. [2] Will be starting a business outfit in Chennai shortly, by the end of this year.
Come on fellas, all of us in this thread are so capable of achieving great things. Please dont let something like this stop you from achieving what you are truly capable of. Im not suggesting anything, but look at whatever options that is available in front of you and Im sure you will find a way out!
Hello All,
I just wanted to start a new thread to discuss career options for those who have been on H1b for 6+ years.
1. Being on H1 more than 6 years and waiting for GC means you have been stuck in the same job for several years.
2. You can't start a masters because you are not sure if you will ever be able to complete it
3. You have kids who are already growing up.
4. Your wife has been waiting to start working for years now.
So feel free to discuss anything related to these issues here. Let's exchange ideas and everyone can make informed decisions for long term :)

... work with the congressmen and senators.
What will you do if you have convinced ALL lawmakers but they still do not vote for you because of public opposition generated by Lou DoGGS? The FACT (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=98473&postcount=595) (NOT opinion) on immigration: In evident pain and remorse, a Republican Senator confessed to a Hispanic group from Maryland that his vote to kill immigration reform was a profile in political cowardice..
Todays New York's Id (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=194883&postcount=1455) example:
Mr. Spitzers decision to abandon his plan comes as a poll released Tuesday by Siena College found that seven in 10 New York voters who had heard about it and more than 80 percent of the 625 registered voters polled had opposed it. It also found that for the first time, more people viewed the governor unfavorably than favorably.
The governor and his aides said that they were not reacting to the slumping poll numbers, but acting pragmatically. That the dispute had even tripped up Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, who stumbled to answer a question about it in a presidential debate, was symptomatic of where we were, he said.
The issue was gaining traction not based on thoughtful discourse, but based on sound bites and less than careful analysis, he added.

I was referring to "AC21 Memo" not the "AC21 law".
I agree with your statement that AC21 is a law.
ok, probably you meant memos issued by USCIS for AC-21 implementation.
Would you please explain what you meant by "real memo" when you wrote
AC21 memo is a real memo
I am not aware that there multiple kinds of memos.

Rumors seem to be getting stronger by the hour. And all the info is coming from lawyers who are usually conservative in releasing such information.
Don't get your hopes up... just wait and watch. Never worry about anything that's not in your control! That's the way to living nirvana...
The rumor is the world cat will be current and all others unavailable since the quota for those countries are already filled.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$GOOD MORNING GC$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Deadline = April 30th, 2011
Goal = 5000 votes on survey (see I-485 filing w/o current PD thread) and momentum to continue with this campaign. The survey is a platform to gather and push for launching action items. Based on response by 04/30/2011 - IV will decide whether to even proceed with initiative or not.
Actions - 1) Vote on survey.
2)Email ivcoordinator@gmail.com with PD, ph#,email & subject "I485 filing impacted,
3)Print/Circulate Fliers and spread FB, wiki link (see "support thread")
Dear IV Members,
If you believe that your success depends on your immigration process - whether it's the ability to file I-485 earlier or to get green-card and citizenship sooner or whether it's the ability of your spouse to work - then you have to believe that your success somehow depends on the success of Immigration voice and these 170 volunteers in DC next week.
As you may know, we are just one more week away from hosting Advocacy day in Washington DC where about 170 members of Immigration Voice will conduct nearly 250 meetings with offices of Senators and Congressmen. Such events cost money. If we have enough contributions, we can spend as per our budget of nearly $ 50,000. If not, we will have to cut back on the event spending and reduce the magnitude and size of the event.
If you are not coming to DC next week, please do your part and contribute funds to Immigration Voice. It not only finances the event properly, it instills pride and confidence in the members who will be there in DC that there are thousands of willing supporters behind them who could not be there physically but are 100% with them in their determination and resolve.
For background click here -> Announcement about April 2011 Advocacy Days (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/forum85-action-items-for-everyone/1901186-action-item-advocacy-days-in-washington-dc-in-april-2011-a.html#post2301599)
Contribute to Advocacy Event on the Capitol Hill (http://immigrationvoice.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26&Itemid=44#onetimepaypal) (All one-time contributions will go towards organizing the Advocacy Days event)
