I don't understand why T-Mobile is using 700/2100 instead of 2100 up and down. The iPhone and other handsets support 2100 but not 700.

This week XtremeMac posted their iPod Touch 4G online. I was ready to pull out my credit card and make a purchase but I decided to swing by Staples one more time to see if they were in stock. The previous weeks Staples had marked down all their 2G XtremeMac cases. So I was hoping it would be in stock. Well I picked one up tonight and was extremely excited to see that the case feels just as good as the previous line.
The fit of the Tuffwrap is nice and snug. I remember the 1st two cases I bought for my 1st Gen iTouch was between $20-30. The second one I thought of not skimping and got an Incase for my iPod then the one after I purchased another Incase from a discount store. Both times they split.

Nobody is saying you can't discriminate against someone who's shoved a gun in your face and asked for all the money in your cash register.
However, what's your rationale for discriminating against someone who has sat down at a table and wants to order a hamburger and fries?
Males are far more likely to commit violent crimes than females. If you were worried about statistics, then it would make sense to open an "ladies only" establishment.

I am mad at apple, their processors suck right now... not to mention their price. Im not gunna spend 3,000 for a computer that I could get with -yes - a worse os, for 1,000. Macs just arent worth it right now. Until they have something that can compete speed wise, my next comp is a PC.

The line was pretty mad, but it seemed to move rather quickly once the doors were opened at 6pm. My hat is off to those who in the queue who had a word with the queue cutters as well as the Apple staff. (Dear queue cutters get with the program, or go back to your friends at Microsoft.)
I was amazed at the number of people in the queue that didn't buy Leopard. LOL... was the lame free t-shirt really worth your time in the queue?

I'm expecting both a retail DVD release as well as a downloadable release. I'll personally be getting the DVD for easier install on multiple machines.

You know that DVDs are slow, right? Even this 5400RPM drive is 4x faster than the DVD would be. This is my gray install DVD, which I'm going to replace with Lion once it's out, btw. This works fine with USB sticks/SD cards and the regular Snow Leopard DVD as well, if you need it more often. Just make sure to get an USB stick that is faster than the DVD (~10MB/s).

I can most definitely believe this.
I've personally witnessed the rather dramatic decline in Apple quality control over the last year.
It's unlike ever before and very discouraging.
Although I'm the first to admit Apple is excellent about replacing defective units, one would think it would save them money to build them right the first time.
An approach like that would save the customer the time and trouble of having to return, return, return as I went through with FOUR BTO MBP's where each of the faults were confirmed as significant by the Genius at my local Apple store.
Lucky for me, I have an Apple Store just three miles from my house.
I would hate to think of the poor souls that have to drive a long ways to visit one.
Apple is an excellent company, there is no excuse for letting product quality slip down to Dell Levels.

You're absolutely right but as a dev I'd say Adobe is throwing away a large chunk of the Mac market as many users will still have PowerPC machines even when this app comes out. Maybe, Adobe is not after the Mac market at all here. They're really interested in the Windows market but the port to x86 mac was pretty easy.
If you make a Universal Binary the program not only has to run on the PPC but has to hve usable performance. So they would have to taylor the program's feature set so that the PPC was not over taxed.
If you design a program with a target minimum system requirement of "at least a dual core Intel processor and 1GB RAM" you can add a lot of nice features that you could not have if the program had to run on a G4 or G5.
One relivent bit of info is that user's tend to buy most of their software near the time when they buy a new computer. People with older machines simply don't buy much new software. So while there are thousands of PPC Macs in the world not many of those Mac owners will be potential costomers while almost everyone who buys a new computer is a software buyer.

It will be interesting to see if Apple develops its own controller chip for ARM processors. Currently the Intel controller is designed for Intel processors that incorporate PCI express architecture. ARM architecture is quite different. Thunderbolt is currently designed for the standard Mac line of products using Intel Processors. All the mobile products are Arm based processors.
The idea of having a common connector like minidisplay port is quite awesome, and the utilization is all in the software control approach. Dual channel, full bidirectional, with the possibility of multiple protocols running simultaneously with very high data rates. Apple is just covering their future bases, and doing it very nicely.
I saw posts asking about backward compatibility possibilities. The answer is a definite no. But the future arrangements will be most interesting.
One post wanted everything to go thru a standard phone jack. Not at all likely or even possible.

A developer friend of mine tried to download the previous dev release for my system (iMac G5), but it wouldn't install right for some reason. It would hang on restart. I had to re-install from the CD and re-update everything. Even tried disabling all my hacks and startup items, but it just did it again. I believe it was the combo version (2117 I think). I'm thinking it didn't get download right or something though, because he was able to get it working on his (Intel and PPC), a friend of our's (dual G5 PowerMac), and my Mother's (Intel mini). Hoping the new one works better, but if not, at least I know how to fix it. :rolleyes: When it works though, it's fast. Real fast.

CR is, IMO, the best starting point to find out if a product is reliable or has a known defect. From there, I expand my research with more detailed reviews.

CR can be useful but certainly shouldn't be the end of your research. my parents and some friends of theirs bought vizio tvs based on CR alone and the tvs have really crappy picture quality. maybe they scored highly in reliability or something...

All this image shows is that the person measuring the white iPhone 4 has no idea how to use a caliper. The idea of a caliper isn't to squeeze the crap out of whatever you're measuring. It is obvious that the in the right picture they are squeezing much harder just looking at the discoloration of the persons skin on their thumb.
Sorry sir, but you are wrong. The difference is only in the post-process of the images. Your "perceived" skin discoloration is because the second image has a higher level of contrast, thus blowing away the highlights and enhancing the midtones and shadows.

I think it's a little early to start worrying about PPC support being dropped entirely. I see this more as an exception than an oncoming norm.

I was drawn to this forum because I am interested in computers generally and macs almost qualify.....but seriously I poked around on a mac for about an hour today, and found that some things are less intuitive (minimizing and closing windows). Also I found that some things easily accessible in windows are not accessible at all in mac OSX. I felt like the computer was "dumbed down" for me. All in all it was a computer and pefectly capable internet machine, but at least in an hour nothing even came close to winning me ove. Oh yeah it also crashed once too.
