Oh great. I'm going to have to tie up my Internet connection for a long period of time to update my 4G iPod touch and iPad 2 for the 4.3.2 update.

I REALLY hope that Apple does incremental updates of iOS starting with iOS 5.0 to save us from tying up the broadband connection for such a long period of time.

But I think the biggest advantage is that it would be very very simple to adjust the interface to dial phonenumbers, type text messages, and so on. In other words: the iPhone would be within handreach, and it would not require dozens of buttons added to interface (eg via a dock connector like the FM radio) I believe this was planned for 2006

This is what I thought when I saw the report on the Apple patents for the different interfaces (number pad, 4-way "cross" control, iPod controls, etc.). What if those "alternative" controls were actually all "displayed" controls on a none-touch screen, and Apple is planning on making this device your iPod, your cell phone, and your gaming machine? Depending on what you select, the proper controls will appear.

We know Apple was looking to hire a game programmer for the iPod. We think Apple's working on a cell phone based on comments made at the last financials meeting. We saw the patents for the various control interfaces, coincidentally all being shown on the same form factor.

My concerns are cost(how in the world could Apple make such a device that's also affordable) and simplicity(most iPod reviewers seem to come to the conclusion that it's the iPod simplicity that's the key to its success). Adding all these features seems very un-Apple and could make the device rather confusing and cumbersome.

just goes to show people still want to be able to see flash on their iphones reguardless of how bloated

Nonsense. It means nothing of the sort. Check back in 6 months, 3 months or even 1 month and see a) how many ppl are still using it, and b) how many ppl are buying it once the first blush of excitement is over.

Opera's browser went nuts when it was released (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=897606). It was the Bellepheron to the Chimera of Apple's Safari lock-in. Now where is it? It doesn't even appear on the Top 200 Free (http://appshopper.com/bestsellers/free) list.

Huh? Bluetooth absolutely kicks ass! I have used it extensively with my laptop and my cell-phone, when making data-calls through the phone. No need to have any wires, no need to even take out the phone. Just turn on Bluetooth on the computer and dial. And it just works. Granted, few years ago Bluetooth had all kinds of problems. But it works very very well these days.

Now, it might be that operators in USA cripple Bluetooth (I have heard that they do that). Luckily in Finland they don't do that, and things work very well indeed.

I'm happy that it works well for you.

However: the only reason that I have to reboot and restart any Mac computer in my house is because of this abomination; when Bluetooth is disabled, no problems. Unfortunately, I must use it occasionally with my iBook, and, as such, deal with its dire consequences.

    End of story.

You don't need Rosetta, iOS is Intel 64 native. You get a copy with Xcode called the Simulator.

The problem is that all iOS app store binaries are ARM and not x86. Devs could provide a second build for the simulator but they would have to do it for all of their old apps.

Maybe there will be a touchscreen MBA with both an intel and an arm processor that can run iOS apps in fullscreen alongside other Mac apps...

I'm still wondering about battery life.

And they list the wired as Windows compatible, but not the new bluetooth version. Any reason it wouldn't work on Windows?

Any reason anything works in windows?

I was at Brea Mall today at 1:00 and there was a short line. I came back at 4:00 and the line was gone.

Did any units actually show up for sale, or did they tell the people to go home?

Fair enough, I hate arguing over such minute issues anyway. Besides anyone that has an opinion probably won't change it just because of a few forum flames.

I'm with you all. We will have to agree to disagree. Hopefully with some dignity still intact.

Yeah. Gawd knows Apple hasn't done a thing with it's Mac line-up this year.

Wow, amazing how emotional people always get whenever I make a statement that could sound slightly anti-iPod... I know you love your iPod and all (I am very fond of mine myself), but over the last few years Apple has been focusing a dispropotional amount of energy into their cute little gadget which has massively boosted their profits. For those of us that don't salivate over all things iPod, I think this is too bad.

    That is all.

So the iPhone went from being pummeled by Android to now just being badly beaten.

    That is Awesome.

iOS for phones was being pummeled by Android. iPhone is kicking the heck out of every phone on the market individually.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new chair!

It was easy to put together and super comfy.
It'd be even more comfy if I was taller...lol.

Looks so nice with my desk and is much better than the "cardboard with fabric" I was sitting on before.

    The bundle is 250gb.

Have to say, I'm jealous of the Reach buyers. Getting ready to move so need to stick to essential expenditures :(

In the UK, there's a 4GB Reach bundle. Only reason I mentioned it.

There was a similar story a few months ago about the I am Rich app. Some people thought it was a joke so they bought not realizing it was real.

As for wanting / not wanting kids. I don't know. Part of me would like kids one day. On the other hand, I'm afraid I'd mess them up.

And to actually bring in healthcare and politics into this? Seriously?

I forgot how God declared that fat people go straight to hell, because being fat is so evil...

...And you bring religion into it? Seriously?

Anyway, to say that healthcare doesn't enter into the situation of someone that large is denial, plain and simple. You really shouldn't jump into such deep waters so ill-equipped, my friend. My original post and Knight's reply to yours already explain why this is a issue that affects more than just her.

    This is her choice.

It sure is. I've never said otherwise. She can eat until she bursts for all I care. But there is a pretty big chasm between being selfish, and not wanting to pay for someone else's self-inflicted stupidity. Though I guess she's backed out of the plan anyway, cleaning up the hot biological mess of someone purposely trying to be "the world's fattest person" should happen on her dime, not mine.

...I think DRM will kill the Argo as well.

    Bingo.

It always comes down to content and DRM. When you think about it, the PSP could (perhaps should) have been the coolest thing since sliced bread with all its features and even movies and Sony's music service tailor-made for it. So what happened? Sony's atrocious proprietary scheme has made it a shell of what it could have been. I have a feeling MS hasn't learned any lessons since the "Works for Sure" campaign became something of a running joke.

Wasn't the Origami supposed to be an iPod killer?

4th in line at South Coast Plaza. Anyone in the front of the line at another location want to make a deal - if my store gets them in you can buy my second, and vise versa?

more then likely the wireless part is directed at the ipod, but this will only stimulate competition, its about time apple is forced to compete with others for the best device again

What would be easy to accomplish would be making universal apps that combine the iPhone, iPad and Mac version in one app bundle. Say, download "OmniFocus Universal", which starts the Mac version on the Mac, the iPad version on iPad, the iPhone version on iPhone/iPod touch. Would only make sense when combining Mac App Store and iOS App Store someway while keeping the syncing of the iOS devices in iTunes.

Think one step further. Why break it up? One device that can work both in Mac (desktop) mode and in touch mode, with apps having UIs for both.

I'm missing Andy Rooney for this long drawn out CBS announcement. :p

I mean, all I need to know is is he dead or not. I don't need 20 questions to 20 different reporters/analysts/etc on whether efforts have been steeped up in the last few months to find/kill osama and other information.

I think it's pretty clear now that we won't really know what "the iPhone comes to Verizon" fully means until next year. Too many variables to learn anything quickly.
